Regulars to The King’s Arms in Orsett have been loving the new look pub after its £160,000 revamp.

Mum and daughter Vicki Gracie and daughter Jade have overseen the renovation work that has taken place on the historic pub.

It was their love of the pub and its community and it led them to take on its lease in September this year.

The duo, who previously ran a florist business, shut the pub business on September 19 and re-opened in late October after the £160,000 project.

Vicki, who lives opposite the pub, first thought about taking it on years ago, but the timing wasn’t right.

Now there is a new seating in the snug, carpets, and pendant lighting and an eye-catching back bar.

Within the dining area there is feature wallpaper and lighting and seating.

Outside the pub looks very sleek having been repainted along with new signage and lighting.

The terrace which has seating for 30 is also being given an uplift and is decked with lighting.

Vicki said: "People have said it looks lovely and so nice to have us open again.

"It has been our dream to do this and make it a community pub. People love it here and don’t want to go home. Once they’re here, they want to stay, which is great for us."

The re-model is a joint investment with Heineken-owned Star Pubs and Bars.

Vicki and Jade have started a monthly pub quiz and afternoon tea events and there will be a festive afternoon tea each Tuesday in December.

"We have been getting people of all ages coming to the pub. Lots of the older generation have been enjoying our events and also the young mums and kids who have been coming in as well," said Jade.

They also have plans for a bingo night in the pipeline and a farmers’ market which they plan to hold in the car park.

The pub is open seven days a week and serves pub grub and Sunday roasts. Dishes on the menu include fish and chips, scampi and chips, ploughman's, ribs, lasagne and more as well as tasty desserts.
