TIMES are tough for people with the cost of living crisis but south Essex charity Gold Geese continues to be amazed by the dedication of its supporters and volunteers.

To mark global Giving Tuesday on November 28 the childhood cancer charity is celebrating some of the people who give their time to help.

Giving Tuesday day is a day that encourages people to do good and over the last decade, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People can volunteer your time; donate money; share your skills; campaign for something; donate goods, food, or clothes; organise a community event such as a street or park clean-up or a coffee morning. If you’d like to get involved in the local area there are some local Southend charities and organisations who would love your support .

Gold Geese is a small charity which provides vital practical and emotional support to families of children and young people fighting cancer in the Southend and Basildon areas. Everybody’s experience of cancer is different, so they tailor care for each family, including: funding for mental health therapy, treats, toys and gifts, respite trips, food shop vouchers, practical help with hospital transport and bereavement support.

They also raise awareness of childhood cancer signs and symptoms, and encourage people to donate blood and register as potential bone marrow donors, as these are needed in some cancer treatments.

Christmas with cancer can be incredibly difficult but you can help Gold Geese bring joy and happiness across the festive season and beyond. A donation or regular gift will help local families facing cancer cover the cost of Christmas or enjoy a magical show, or you could spread the sparkle by volunteering at their magical grotto next month.
