DURING the evening of Tuesday, February 22, I was privileged to be invited back to my old Air Training Corps Squadron – Maldon’s 1207.
Eleven new cadets were enrolled that night and, in the presence of their parents/guardians, they duly received their entry certificates.
As well as feeling very proud to be their current president, the event took me back to my time with 1207.
I was a cadet with the Squadron from 1972, until I left with the rank of Flight-Sergeant in 1978.

It is wonderful to think that Maldon’s resident squadron, formed back in 1941, is still alive and well, and offering great opportunities to local young men and women.
If you know of anyone aged 12 (and in school Year 8) or over who wants to join the Squadron to start their own journey of ‘Venture Adventure’ then they can email the commanding officer, Flight Lieutenant Ryan Vanhinsburgh RAFAC at ryan.vanhinsburgh100@rafac.mod.gov.uk.
