A popular leisure park and cafe near Maldon has celebrated the first of a brand-new event, seeing the community come together in support of a vital organisation.

Osea Leisure Park and the Osea View Cafe, in Heybridge welcomed visitors last Saturday for the lighting of the site's first lobster pot Christmas tree.

The coastal-themed tree, built entirely from real lobster pots, drew large crowds in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Despite the wet weather, spirits remained high while guests gathered outdoors for the light switch-on.

Visitors then enjoyed hot chocolate, mince pies and gingerbread men in the Osea View Cafe.

Janie Robinson, owner of Osea Leisure and The Osea View Café, said: “It was such a lovely evening.

"Even with the rain, people turned up with huge smiles, and the moment the tree lit up felt genuinely magical.

"Bringing the community together like this, and doing it in support of the RNLI, means a great deal to all of us.

"We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who sponsored a pot, donated, or simply came along to celebrate.”

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Goldhanger Shanty Crew brought everyone together for a joyful carol singalong.

A highlight of the evening was a rousing rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas, with guests enthusiastically joining in and filling the cafe with laughter and seasonal cheer.

The event has raised an incredible £1,050 so far for the RNLI, through sponsored lobster pots and community donations.

All funds will support the charity’s vital lifesaving work along the Essex coastline and beyond.

The lobster pot Christmas tree will remain on display at the Osea View Cafe throughout the festive season.

Anyone who would like to donate to the fundraising can do so via the café’s Just Giving page.
