Leeds boss Daniel Farke felt his side produced “one of their best performances over the last 12 months” after Monday night’s 4-1 Premier League win against Newcastle.
Farke’s side were relentless at Elland Road, 3-0 up at half-time through Lewis Miley’s own goal, Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Noah Okafor struck their fourth in the 59th minute.
Substitute Bazoumana Toure scored a late consolation for the shell-shocked visitors, who slipped to their first loss of the season, while Leeds extended their unbeaten league start to climb up to third in the table.
Farke said: “Performance-wise, you have to give credit to them. It was one of the the best performances, I think, over the last 12 months.
“But we know that we have to stay humble. We know that we have to stay on it.
“We know that we perhaps don’t have the best individual quality, but we can be an outstanding team.
“This is what we’ve shown today, and even examples today can show we won’t allow ourselves to be too carried away.”

Leeds have lost just one of their last 13 league games stretching back to last season and only five of their last 29, but Farke remains determined to keep his players grounded.
“We are on a good path, but nothing more,” he added. “There’s always something to moan about in each game.
“Even today, you will find find a few things that were unnecessary with loss of the ball in the first half that nearly caused trouble, an unnecessary goal that we conceded. So there’s never a perfect performance in football.
“But overall, I would also say that was a top-class performance, more or less during the whole game.”
Newcastle’s new boss Matthias Jaissle tasted defeat for the first time in charge of the club, having replaced Eddie Howe in August and he was careful not to point the finger.
The 38-year-old German said: “Only one thing went wrong. It was disappointing, definitely because we couldn’t bring the fundamentals in football on to the pitch.
“Duel behaviour, the intensity of Leeds we couldn’t match, and then you can see that it’s going to be difficult to win a game in the Premier League.”
The Magpies are clearly in transition after the Howe era, spending around £265million this summer and receiving close to £248m in sales during wholesale changes at St James’ Park.
“I said to the lads, we were aware a couple of weeks ago, that with that young squad, we will have challenges,” Jaissle added.
“We will have up and downs. Today it was a big down, a tough night with a heavy defeat.
“But that’s now exactly the way to learn out of it with a young squad. That’s always the most important thing, that you show now the right reaction, and we can do that already on Saturday.”
Jaissle said the club were still waiting to learn the full extent of Anthony Elanga’s injury and the prognosis “doesn’t look that good”.
