THERE was last-gasp heartbreak for Brightlingsea Regent in their Bostik League premier division encounter at Enfield Town.

Having created chances over the 90 minutes to take the lead, the R's found themselves pegged back at the very end as they lost 2-0.

Aaron Condon went closest to putting Brightlingsea ahead when his 35th minute shot was turned on to the crossbar and the incoming Josh Gould was just unable to put the rebound into the back of the net.

It meant that both teams were still locked together at 0-0 as the clock ticked over into the 90th minute, however, the hosts made sure of a late twist.

In the 90th minute, Enfield's Ryan Blake put them ahead and, with Regent now looking for a way back, they were caught pressing up the pitch and Aaron Greene hit them on the break as he fired in a second to wrap up a 2-0 victory.

The result left Brightlingsea 20th in the top-flight table ahead of Monday's home game against Lowestoft Town.

In division north, there were also late goals in the first part of MALDON & TIPTREE'S Easter action as the Jammers saw two points slip away in the latter stage of their trip to Norwich United.

In the game, which was played on Good Friday, it was the hosts who took the lead when Ben Jones put them ahead just two minutes before half-time.

Having fallen behind at the break, Maldon looked to hit back after the restart and new signing Lee Barnard made the difference for them.

The former Southampton, Southend United and Braintree Town striker, who had joined the Jammers on a loan deal from Chelmsford City last week, scored a second-half hat-trick to put Maldon in the driving seat.

Barnard pulled them level within a minute of the second half resuming, before firing them ahead with a 25-yard strike on 58 minutes and completed his treble six minutes later.

A three-point haul appeared in the bag for the Jammers, but Norwich had other ideas.

The Planters responded with a goal from Liam Jackson to cut the deficit on 74 minutes and with just two minutes to go, they got an equaliser as Leiston loanee Matt Blake netted for the third time in as many games to make sure it ended 3-3.

Maldon & Tiptree are due to return to action on Easter Monday when they will host local rivals WITHAM TOWN at Park Drive.

Witham were frustrated in the first part of their Easter action as a waterlogged pitch at the Village Glass Stadium denied them of their scheduled game against visiting Brentwood Town on Saturday.

There was also a postponement on Saturday for HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS.

They had been looking to build on a 4-1 win against high-flying Canvey Island that had taken them up into the play-off positions, but a waterlogged pitch at the Aspen Waite Arena caused their game against Aveley to be called off.

Swifts are now due to travel to second-placed Bowers & Pitsea on Monday.
