COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal will make changes to his starting line-up for their Leasing.com Trophy game against Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21s tonight.

But the U’s boss insists he will be looking for nothing less than a U’s victory in the Group A clash, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester could book their progress into the knockout stages of the competition with a win, having beaten Gillingham 3-2 in their group opener last month.

Colchester will definitely be without Luke Gambin for the Spurs under-21 clash as he is on international duty with Malta.

The U’s could also be missing midfielder Brandon Comley, who is set to link up again with the Montserrat squad ahead of their international matches.

McGreal said: “We’ll have to utilise the squad but it’s a game we want to try and win.

“We’ve got a couple of boys who will be on international duty soon.

“We’ll definitely be missing (Luke) Gambin and we’ll have to wait on see on (Brandon) Comley, to see what time his flights and stuff are.

“There’s definitely a forced change there and there’s also a couple of injured boys who definitely won’t make it.”

Colchester could rest Frank Nouble who impressed in their 3-1 win over Stevenage last weekend having passed a fitness test prior to kick-off.

Courtney Senior, who missed the Boro victory because of a thigh injury, will be assessed prior to tonight’s match along with left-back Ryan Clampin and attacker Paris Cowan-Hall.

Harry Pell and Callum Harriott remain sidelined but Brendan Wiredu and Jevani Brown, who both came on in the latter stages of the Stevenage game, are in line to start against Spurs’ youngsters.

“I thought that the subs were excellent coming on into the heat of the game,” said McGreal.

“The way they took on the tactical side of things shows their maturity, too.”

Defender Omar Sowunmi could also be handed a rare start after finding himself on the bench against Stevenage, having made his first League Two start for the U’s at Macclesfield Town the previous week.

McGreal added: “We keep encouraging Omar to play with the ball at his feet in training.

“We know the other things he can bring and he’s dominant in the air.

“We know that he has big pace and in his sprints last week, he was nearly hitting a ten which is excellent for a centre-back.

“We know the mobility and agility is there.

“He’s had to wait for longer than he thought and injuries hampered him in pre-season, which always takes you back a couple of weeks and you are then playing catch up a little bit but he can be pleased with his start (at Macclesfield).”
