Colchester United claimed their first League Two win of the season after beating Northampton Town 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Norris's penalty midway through the second half sealed the U's all three points at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The result sets John McGreal’s men up nicely for their Carabao Cup second-round tie at Premier League side Crystal Palace, next Tuesday night.

DEAN GERKEN 8

Made good saves to deny Hoskins and Adams and played his part in U’s clean sheet

RYAN JACKSON 7

Was a typically solid performer at right-back on his 100th U’s appearance

TOM EASTMAN 8

U’s long-serving defender was typically unruffled throughout and dominant in the air

LUKE PROSSER 8

U’s skipper led the back four well and did not allow Northampton’s forwards much of a sniff

RYAN CLAMPIN 8

Another impressive display by the young left-back up against the experienced Adams; made a crucial first-half goal-line clearance

BRANDON COMLEY 8

Made the right decisions throughout and also chipped in with some important challenges

BEN STEVENSON 8

Won the penalty that led to Norris converting the U’s winner and was a positive influence

COURTNEY SENIOR 7

Showed off an array of skills and had the Northampton defence back-tracking on a regular basis

JEVANI BROWN 7

Was denied by keeper Cornell in the first half before being replaced early in the second half

FRANK NOUBLE 7

Switched between a central and wide position and always made life uncomfortable for the visitors

LUKE NORRIS 8

U's man of the match. Tucked his penalty away nicely for his 50th career league goal and was unlucky not to score before that
