FRINTON kept their title charge on track with an important victory in the Read Brothers Ltd East Anglian Premier League.

Mike Comber's men defeated Horsford by five wickets to set themselves up for Saturday's huge clash at second-placed Swardeston.

With just four games left, the Ashlyns Road side are still top of the table with 343 points.

Swardeston, who won by six wickets at Burwell and Exning on Saturday, are second, with 339, while Sudbury are third, with 322.

This weekend's monstrous clash could therefore be the title-decider.

Frinton will head into it in good heart, after last weekend's victory.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Horsford made 191 for six from their 50 overs.

Ollie Bocking kept them in tight check, taking three wickets for 30 runs in ten overs, including the scalps of opening batsmen Matthew Plater and Luke Findlay.

He also removed skipper Ryan Findlay when he was looking well-set for a half-century, dismissing him for 47.

Dulanjala Mendis took the catch on that occasion and there were also two wickets for the Sri Lankan spinner, at the expense of 44 runs.

Ashley Watson took the other wicket to fall.

Horsford's top scorer was Jason Reynolds, who finished unbeaten on 80.

In reply, Frinton lost an early wicket when Jaik Mickleburgh was dismissed for just three.

James Baker (11) and Blaine Bannister (eight) soon followed as the visitors found themselves on 44 for three.

However, opener Michael Griggs (26) got them back on track before big contributions from Migs Machado and Comber.

Machado scored 76 not out, hitting eight fours and a six, while Comber smashed an unbeaten 51.

His great knock included four fours and two sixes.

With Watson chipping in with 17, it meant Frinton were able to reach their target in the 48th over.

Thomas Nudd and Callum Metcalf both took two wickets apiece for Horsford.

Frinton will now hope for more of the same at Swardeston on Saturday (11am start).

Both sides will only have three matches left afterwards, so it could be a season-defining fixture.
