Colchester United have completed the signing of winger Luke Gambin on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old trained with his new team-mates for the first time today, after joining the U's from Luton Town.

Gambin, who is Colchester's first senior signing of the summer, was released by the Hatters when his contract expired at the end of last season.

The Malta international, who scored twice against the U's for Crawley Town on New Year's Day, says he is delighted to secure a deal to play at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Gambin said: “I went away in the summer, had a bit of a holiday and had two international games.

“When I knew of Colchester’s interest, I wanted to get back and meet the manager (John McGreal) and the assistant (Steve Ball) and come and see the training ground.

“As a player, when you’re free you other offers but having played against Colchester and looking at their team, I just think it’s a great club and a great environment to work at.

“It’s a promising squad and it’s good to be a part of it, so I’m glad to be a part of it."

Gambin started at AFC Wimbledon before moving to Barnet in 2009, as a trainee. He helped the Bees to promotion in the National League in 2014/15, as they returned to the EFL.

He made 132 appearances for the Bees before leaving them to join Luton Town in 2017 and helped the Hatters make the play-offs.

Gambin played against the U's for Crawley last season during his loan spell with the Reds and in total has made nearly 200 league and cup appearances during his career, scoring 21 goals.
