Colchester United claimed a 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Mikael Mandron's first-half strike gave the U's all three points at the JobServe Community Stadium and made it seven points from a possible nine in their last three League Two games.

The result sees Colchester stay third in the table and John McGreal’s men make the long trip up to Carlisle United, next weekend.

Here, Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the players following their hard-earned victory:

DILLON BARNES 7

U’s keeper showed safe hands throughout and contributed to clean sheet.

RYAN JACKSON 8

Provided the assist for Mandron’s goal and was full of running as usual.

FRANKIE KENT 8

U’s man of the match. Did not lose a header and was unbeatable at the back.

LUKE PROSSER 8

U’s skipper was assured and composed and hardly gave Macclesfield a glimpse of goal.

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 7

Enjoyed plenty of penetrative runs and enjoyed a good battle with Durrell.

HARRY PELL 7

Went close with a long-range shot just before half-time; showed his usual energy.

TOM LAPSLIE 8

Hardly lost a challenge in the centre of the park and made the midfield his own.

FRANK NOUBLE 8

Unplayable at times with his strength and also did his best defensively, too.

SAMMIE SZMODICS 7

Provided his usual hard-working performance but did not get too many glimpses of goal.

COURTNEY SENIOR 7

Had a quiet game and was well marshalled by the Macclesfield defence before being replaced.

MIKAEL MANDRON 8

Capped an impressive display with a well-taken goal and was also denied by keeper O’Hara.
