Colchester United will travel to play Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup first round.

John McGreal's side will play the League One side on the weekend of November 10 and 11, following tonight's draw made live on BBC2.

A win in the first round proper is worth £36,000.

It will mean three away games in a row for Colchester in all competitions, with the tie immediately followed by trips to play Cambridge United in the Checkatrade Trophy (November 13) and then an important clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Newport County in League Two (November 17).

Accrington currently lie fourth in the League One table, following their promotion from the fourth tier last season.

The U’s lost twice to John Coleman’s side last season, going down 3-1 on the opening day of the campaign at the Wham Stadium and falling to a 1-0 loss to the Reds at the JobServe Community Stadium in the return match, last April.

Accrington have won six of their last seven matches in all competitions and are in impressive form.

The Reds ran out 1-0 winners at Peterborough United last weekend.

The first-round tie at the Wham Stadium next month will be the second time that the two clubs have met in the FA Cup.

The U’’s also took on Accrington in the third round of the competition back in January 2004 with the original tie finishing as a 0-0 draw, before Colchester ran out  2-1 winners in the replay at Layer Road.

Colchester will be looking to make further progress in the competition than they have over each of the last two seasons, where they have fallen at the first hurdle.

Last year, the U's suffered a 1-0 home loss to non-league outfit Oxford City.

And the season prior to that, they bowed out of the competition at the first-round stage against Chesterfield.

But in the 2015-16 season, the U's reached the fourth round when they were beaten 4-1 by Premier League outfit Spurs with Gavin Massey scoring Colchester's consolation goal.
