John McGreal believes Colchester United's draw at Oldham Athletic will be a valuable point for his side.

The U's were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at Boundary Park, after the Latics hit back with two late goals to claim a draw following a thrilling game in League Two.

Goals from Luke Norris and Harry Pell gave Colchester a two-goal lead.

And although Sam Surridge pulled a goal back for the home side, when Norris made it 3-1 it looked like the U's were on their way to victory.

But late goals from Surridge and Peter Clarke rescued a point for the home side, leaving Colchester to reflect on what might have been.

McGreal said: "On reflection, it'll be a valuable point.

"We've scored three goals and you would expect to win but not at this level, because we know what a good team Oldham have been of late.

"We did a lot of defending but you have to give Oldham a lot of credit, because I thought they were very good.

"We knew we were in a game; we had them watched, did our analysis on it and it's one where we haven't been at our best.

"But you have to give the opposition credit for that.

"We got ourselves into a 3-1 lead and we do look clinical.

"But at the other end defensively, we haven't been at our best.

"We conceded a couple of set piece goals and that's out of the norm for us really.

"We've been really dominant at set pieces but we haven't picked up.

"We haven't played as well as we can but we'll look at the whole performance."
