Maldon & Tiptree surrendered the Bostik League division north's top spot and dropped to third as they were beaten 2-1 in their Essex derby by Canvey Island.
The Jammers had De-Carrey Sherrif on target from a 69th minute penalty, but the Gulls grabbed an 86th minute winner from Josh Hutchinson, who had earlier put them ahead.
There was also a defeat for Witham Town as they lost 2-0 at Dereham Town and Heybridge Swifts were another side who had an off day as they lost 3-2 at Aveley.
Sam Bantick had put Swifts two ahead with strikes on 35 and 49 minutes but an Alex Akofi double and a late third by Tom Richardson saw Aveley turn the game on its head.
Coggeshall Town ended their game against Tilbury with only ten men after two late yellow cards caused George Cocklin to be sent off, but the Seedgrowers drew 1-1 with their visitors.
Connor Hubble had put Coggeshall ahead on 65 minutes, but after Cocklin had been sent off, Tilbury's Lewis Smith earned the Dockers a point with an 88th minute penalty.
In the premier division, a crowd of 198 were at North Road, but hosts Brightlingsea Regent were unable to provide them with a home win as they were beaten 2-0 by league leaders Tonbridge Angels.
