MALDON and Tiptree manager Terry Spillane believes the signing of Jamie Guy is a massive boost for the Club.

The 25-year-old former Colchester United striker has signed for the Park Drive outfit from Blue Square Bet Confrenece Premier side Braintree Town.

Guy has been at Cressing Road for two years, but suffered a double fracture of his leg playing against Eastleigh in February 2011 and fought his way back into the team.

He returned to the side at the end of last season, mostly from the bench, making eight appearances and scoring in the Iron’s 4-0 win against Barrow.

Maldon travel to Aveley in the opening match of this season’s Ryman League division one north campaign on Saturday and Guy may feature.

Spillane said: “Jamie isn’t 100 per cent but we are hoping to have him on the bench on Saturday.

“He has been training with us for a month and his signing is a big boost for the club.

“He has been brought in to score goals and help boost our promotion push.

“He has been raised in a totally professional environment and it is good to have him around the club.

“And it is great for us and for Ryman north to have someone like him playing.

“He is still very young, and very ambitious and this will put him in the shop window.”

And looking ahead to their first league fixture, Spillane said: “It will be a tough start against Aveley, they were relegated from the Ryman League premier last season.

“It won’t be an easy game but I am confident that we can do well.

“We are almost at full strength, we have two players away on holiday and a couple of niggles but apart from that we are good to go.”
