MALDON Bowls Club staged its 11-end, three-wood singles competition over the weekend as the outdoor season drew to a close.

Dave Bruce beat Tony Wallis 9-4 in the first semi-final after racing into a 7-1 lead.

Meanwhile, Dave Torrice dominated his match against Peter Saunders, clinching a decisive 13-2 win to advance to the final.

Torrice held his nerve in the final despite Bruce fighting back from 7-1 to 7-5.

Torrice won 13-5 to lift the trophy.

Maldon’s final ladies’ friendly was played at Southminster, with two rinks of triples taking part.

Maldon won both rinks to finish the season on a high.

Ladies captain Bobby Bruce was praised after her teams finished second in the Chelmer League.

The club will now turn to the indoor season, with members competing at local clubs.

The annual trophy presentation will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday, November 7.
