MALDON & Tiptree have appointed Steve Butterworth as their new first-team manager.

The Pitching In Isthmian Premier side have brought in the former Brentwood Town assistant manager to replace Mark Hawkes, who left the club earlier this month.

Butterworth, known as "Scouse" in the non-league game, served as Keith Rowland's assistant at Brentwood before both departed this month.

The pair led their previous club to promotion from the Isthmian League division north, followed by the Isthmian Premier play-offs.

Maldon & Tiptree co-owner Sonny Shahnawaz said: "We're delighted to welcome Steve to Maldon & Tiptree.
