Maldon Bowls Club held its annual President's Day on Sunday.

In the Chelmsford and District League Division One, Maldon A were at home to league leaders Burnham A.

The game unfolded dramatically, with Maldon racing to an early lead.

However, Burnham responded fiercely, edging ahead by six shots across three rinks as the match neared its conclusion.

With one end remaining on each rink, Maldon rallied to gain three crucial shots, leaving the final rink requiring four to secure an overall victory.

The Burnham skip managed to reduce the deficit to three shots, but Maldon's last bowl just ran too far, resulting in a tie on shots at 50 apiece.

Despite the draw, Burnham claimed a 6-4 win by virtue of winning on two rinks.

The individual rink scores were A. Squire 23-10, D. Torrice 12-16, and T. Wallis 15-24.

In Division Two, Maldon B faced a setback in their relegation battle, suffering a 9-1 points loss away at Stock B.

This defeat means they must win their final game and rely on other results to avoid dropping down a division.

Meanwhile, Maldon C in Division Three secured a 6-4 points victory, ensuring a mid-table finish with one game remaining, a commendable achievement following last year's promotion.

In the CMBL, Maldon A's hopes of clinching the league title evaporated as they lost on both rinks to Silver End.

After a shaky start, trailing 2-11 on both rinks, they mounted a spirited comeback but ultimately fell short, with Silver End taking all eight points in a 39-31 shots win.

Both Maldon B and C in Division Three are also facing relegation threats, but they both achieved vital wins, with B defeating Ingatestone 8-0 and C overcoming Great Baddow 6-2, setting the stage for a tense final week of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Maldon Ladies are enjoying success in the Chelmer Ladies League, recently securing a victory which places them third in the standings and in contention for the league title.

Their last match saw them triumph over Ingatestone, winning both rinks in closely contested games, with scores of 19-16 and 18-17.

Maldon A will face Writtle in their next fixture, while the pressure mounts for the other teams as the season draws to a close.
