HEYBRIDGE Swifts have appointed Jason Maher as their new manager.

The former Maldon and Tiptree and Saffron Walden Town boss has taken over in the hot seat at the Pitching In Isthmian League division north side.

He takes over from Julian Dicks, who stepped down as the club’s manager last month.

The West Ham United legend cited the budget along with ‘other issues and certain people at the club’ as the reasons behind him making the decision to leave, after nearly 18 months in charge.

Maher will be assisted at the First Call Community Stadium by James Falaise, who has been brought in as first team coach.

In a statement, Swifts said: “We’re delighted to confirm that Jason Maher has been appointed as the new First Team Manager.

“Jason brings a wealth of non-league knowledge and experience, having previously managed at Saffron Walden, Welling and Maldon & Tiptree.

“Welcome to the Swifts, Jason!”

Maher had been in charge at Stansted, where he was appointed first team manager last month after the departure of Paul Halls.

But Maher was only in charge for one game and left the Airportmen, after ‘a change in circumstance’.

Maher’s first game in charge of Heybridge will be at home to Witham Town tomorrow.

He will be able to call on the services of goalkeeper Marcus Garnham, who has signed for the club ahead of the game.

The experienced shot-stopper has previously played for the likes of Needham Market and AFC Sudbury.
