ANTHONY Wordsworth is back at Colchester United as an academy coach.

The 36-year-old, who came through the U’s set-up and went on to make nearly 200 appearances for them between 2007 and 2013, is working alongside Elliott Ward coaching the club’s under-21 side.

Wordsworth is also still playing for Maldon and Tiptree and featured in their FA Cup first-round tie at Port Vale, earlier this month.

Listen to our interview with the former U’s midfielder, who says he is relishing being back at the club where it all began for him, as a player.

Wordsworth said: “It’s been nice to come round full circle, if you like.

“Obviously, this club means a lot to me.

“It gave me my first opportunity in football and will always hold a special place in my heart, so it’s extra special now if I can help get a few boys into the first team.

“That’s as good as it can get, as a coach.”
