FORMER Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has signed for Pitching In Isthmian League division north side Maldon and Tiptree as their player-coach.

The 35-year-old has linked up with the Jammers, following the expiry of his contract at National League South side Chelmsford City.

Wordsworth made nearly 200 league and cup appearances for Colchester after coming through their academy set-up and was their players' player of the year, in the 2011-12 season.


He left Colchester to join their neighbours Ipswich Town in January, 2013.

He spent two and a half years at Portman Road before leaving to join Southend United in the summer of 2015.

Wordsworth clocked up nearly 100 appearances for Blues and after leaving them in 2018, had spells at AFC Wimbledon, Barnet, Cheshunt, Irish club Waterford, Enfield Town and Chelmsford.


Now he has linked up with Colchester's alliance club Maldon, where he will continue playing and work alongside their new boss, Dave Huzzey.

His first involvement for his new club is set to be next month when the Jammers host Colchester in a pre-season friendly at Park Drive, on July 13.

Maldon have also announced the signing of goalkeeper Jamie Grossart, ahead of the new season. 

The highly-rated keeper has played academy football at AFC Bournemouth and Southend United and is an exciting addition to the squad.

Maldon are hoping to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Isthmian League Premier, this season.
