BURNHAM Hillside’s Bowls Club's Annual Charity Day took place, organised by Eleanor Bridge and assisted by Sid Curtis.

On a glorious sunny day, 36 players took part in 12 triples teams all matching their skills over four separate games of six ends.

Before the game a spider was held for a bottle of gin, donated by John Wilson, for the winner, who was Gill Mortensen.

A raffle was held for numerous prizes generous donated by many players, and refreshments were served up by Len Shippey with Brian Holloway and Tony Brock looking after the bar.

There was lots of excellent bowling on the day along with a great social atmosphere and it was not until the last game, after the official scorer Terry Sims had calculated the results, that the positions could be declared.

Jeanette Wilson, Peter Cox and Sid Curtis won, with runners-up Pat Short, Paulette Norfolk and Val Hyam.

The winners were presented with the Charity Cup by the Club’s President Joy Campbell, who thanked everyone for taking part and contributing to her charities, Macmillan Nurses and Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The Dengie Finals were held at Southminster Bowling Club.

There was some very close games amongst the finalists with some of the honours going to all three Dengie clubs.
