Seniors: 1st XV

With new management at the helm this year, Burnham were hoping for a successful season in the league.

After narrowly losing in the final of the Essex Cup to league champions Millwall in the last game of the season last year, Burnham were one of the favourites for promotion.

However, injuries to key members of the squad and the need for time to find the best combination in the team has resulted in a poor run of results. Last week's win over Pegasus has brought fresh optimism for the rest of the season.

2nd XV

The Seconds are starting to see the benefit of the youth section coming through into the seniors, combined with some of the older heads moving from the first team into this team. 2007 has started well and see Burnham pushing hard for promotion.

Both senior squads train on Tuesday night from 7pm at the club's headquarters. If you're interested in playing or getting involved, call club captain Ian Baker on 07855 842103

Youth: Under 16s

This exciting squad continues to impress all that watch. With the majority of the players coming through the ranks from midis all the way to colts rugby, it is an asset to the club to have such talented players and gives a bright outlook to the club's future when they make the leap from youth to senior rugby in the coming years.

Under 14s

Coaches Martyn and Dave said the boys have show good commitment throughout the year, with a mixture of results including winning away at Upminster 17-5 and beating East London 27-12 at home.

The Under 14s train on Thursday evenings at the club headquarters. More players are always welcome. Contact Martyn on 07871 085307.

Under 11s

The U11s have won all of their games so far in 2007, no mean feat.

Coach Robert Barr said: "What can I say about this team?

"All of the kids train together and have a passion for the game and are always full of enthusiasm. It's not just the kids though - we owe so much to the parents who give so much support every week.

"At the moment, our team consists of 17 players, although we only need 12 for a team, but we are allowed to have as many subs as we wish and everyone who turns up for games will play.

"I would like to mention our players and to say a big thank-you to all of them for their dedication to the season so far: Alffie Barr, George Marron, Harry Rusby, Flynn Davies, David Bevan, Sterling Taylor, Joe Groom, Charlie Wood, Liam Williams, Brandon Hunt, Alex Melhuish, Max and Harry Hinkins, Harry Dye, Harry Dillion, Jake Braybrook and Sammy Barr.

"We are looking forward to 2008 season. We have lots of games coming up and we are sure the kids are too. Here's to 2008!"

The U11s play on half a full pitch, have contested scrums and line-outs.

Under 10s

The U10s have a consistent squad of around 12 players week in, week out.

Coach Paul Patarou said: "We require nine to play the game, but it is a squad sport with full contact, contested scrums and line-outs. We need to keep bringing in new players and new faces. We train on Wednesday nights between 7pm and 8pm at the club."

Under 9s

Under the watchful eye of manager Mark Aydon, the U9s are starting to click into a well-oiled unit.

There is a great team spirit, with members of the team coming from all over the Dengie and from different schools, which allows them to make new friends. This squad is one of the biggest in the club, with at least 19 members.

Mark Aydon said: "Under 9s changes from playing tag rugby to being full contact and, although it is uncontested scrums and line-outs, the kids still have to learn how to tackle properly and - importantly - safely.

"If this group keep training as hard as they have in 2007, they'll have an even better 2008!'' For further details about how to play for the U9s, call Mark Aydon on 07770 683619.

Under 8s and Under 7s

Tag rugby is aimed at teaching the kids the art of playing in a team and having fun at the same time. Games are played on Sunday mornings and always well attended.

Coach Niall Hornett said: "This is great way of kids learning to play the game and understanding what playing in a team is about. We have had some very quiet and shy kids really come out of their shells playing the game, which is great for their confidence and allows them all to make new friends from other schools all around the Dengie."

Youth Quiz Night will be held at the club on Friday January 25, to raise money for training equipment. Teams size is a maximum of six, with no more than two people over 16 years old! Questions will be aimed at the junior sections and there will be prizes to be won. Organiser Dave Limpeny said: "The bar will be open and there will be huge merriment to cheer up the post-Christmas slump."
