There was Bank Holiday joy for Brightlingsea Regent as the R's gave themselves a welcome lift in the sunshine with a first BetVictor Isthmian League premier division win of the season.
On a scorchingly hot day, Regent got their first three-point haul with a 1-0 home victory against Hornchurch.
A 72nd minute goal by Billy Hunt was enough to earn the R’s a valuable win and took them up to 16th in the table.
In division north, Maldon & Tiptree moved top of the table after imposing a first defeat on Witham Town as the Jammers hammered their local rivals 5-1.
Having beaten Hullbridge Sports and drawn with Bury Town in their opening two league games, Witham stumbled and were trailing 4-0 at half-time thanks to a Charlee Hughes double and strikes from William Cracknell and Al-Al Amin.
Shamido Pedulu stepped off the bench to score in the 63rd minute for Witham, but it proved only a consolation as Tyrique Hyde finished off the home scoring seven minutes from time.
Coggeshall Town are fourth after a first-half goal from Conor Hubble and one on 76 minutes by Trevan Allen gave the Seedgrowers a 2-0 win against Great Wakering Rovers.
One place below Coggeshall are Heybridge Swifts, who also scored twice in beating Felixstowe & Walton Unted 2-1.
Alex Teniola and Elliott Ronto were on target for Swifts in the first half.
