BRAINTREE Town manager Danny Searle feels the manner of his team’s win against Salford City shows that his players have a resilient mindset in their battle to stay in the Vanarama National League this year.

The Iron are still bottom of the table with 14 games to go, but their 1-0 win against a high-flying Salford side was a boost to their morale as well as their points tally.

It was a result the Iron had to be patient to wrap up, though, as Callum Morton’s winning strike didn’t come until the 95th minute.

Conceding late goals has been costly for Braintree themselves this year, but Searle knows they are working hard to turn that around now and felt the Salford game was evidence of just that.

He said: “Salford did it to us at their place – we were 2-1 up and they scored in the 93rd minute – so we have been on the end of late goals this year.

“And it’s not great.

“You do so much work throughout a game to make sure you get a point or three points and it can be so deflating to concede at the end.

“However, that is the game and one of the mantras that we’re trying to get into the players is that it’s not a 90-minute game.

“It’s 95, 96 or 97 and we have to make sure that we are switched on and focused in that time.

“I think the general ethos in the dressing room now is that we are a lot more resolute and the resilience levels have gone through the roof.”

As well as his players’ display on the pitch, Searle was also impressed with the backing provided by their fans.

He added: “The supporters of this club are passionate and they want to see the same on the football pitch.

“It’s our duty as a squad and a staff to make sure our players deliver that.

“The reaction from the fans against Salford was outstanding.

“The board have been brilliant in supporting me to get the players in and everyone has been great.

“The kit men, the bar staff – everyone has been superb.

“I feel confident and in a good place and with that kind of culture and environment that we’re trying to create, so will the players.

“That will only breed better performances and better results in my opinion.”
