A last-minute penalty strike made sure it was honours even in the Boxing Day derby between Heybridge Swifts and Maldon & Tiptree.

With both of the local rivals vying for Bostik League division north promotion this year, there were more than just bragging rights up for grabs and both had to settle for a point apiece.

It would probably be Heybridge who were the more satisfied with that at the end as it had looked like the Jammers would take all three as the game headed into the final minute.

Jack Cawley had given Maldon the lead on 49 minutes, but the hosts won a penalty in the 90th minute and Matt Price fired home to earn a valuable point for his team.

The result left Maldon & Tiptree sat second in the division north table, with Heybridge also in the play-off places in fifth spot.
