Witham Town’s young guns stood tall and delivered some excellent performances but it wasn’t enough to see their team progress in the Velocity Trophy.

A youthful Witham side, that included three 18-year-olds making their first-team full debuts, were beaten 1-0 at Maldon & Tiptree as Billy Roast’s 66th minute goal sent the Jammers into the third round.

Maldon are flying high in Bostik League division north, while Witham are second from bottom, but the young Town players were not disgraced and had chances to score.

However, the Jammers had just a little too much on the night.

In Velocity Trophy action elsewhere, Coggeshall Town also advanced as they won 2-0 at AFC Hornchurch thanks to strikes by Tevan Allen and Aaron Condon.

Meanwhile, there was also action in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division Knockout Cup.

Halstead Town saw their progress ended by a 4-1 defeat by Coggeshall United at the Milbank Stadium.

Sam Cripps put the Weavers ahead early and while Kane Gilbert equalised for Halstead to make it level at the break, Coggeshall had Josh Dalziel and Cameron Easter on target in the second half and an own goal to send them through.

Harwich & Parkeston were another side to exit as they were beaten 3-2 at Felixstowe & Walton Reserves.
