LOOKING AHEAD: It is safe to say Great Wakering Rovers were not handed a favourable draw when they followed Wealdstone out of the hat in the FA Cup draw.

Wakering, champions of the Essex Senior League last season, have won only once this term but have made promising early steps under the guidance of new manager Garry Kimble.

A trip to National League South Wealdstone - one of the best resourced teams in the second tier of non-league - would be a tough ask for anyone.

The Stones are often underachievers but showed their potential with a run to the FA Trophy semi-finals last season.

Three campaigns since they reached the first round last time out, they are overwhelming favourites as Wakering bid to reach the third qualifying round for the first time.

Rovers were last competing at this stage in the 1998/99 season.

MANAGER’S VIEW: “We are massive underdogs for this one but we need to make sure we give it our all on the day,” said Kimble. “We need to frustrate them and stay in it. It will be a tall order as they are well resourced but we need to go and give as good an account of ourselves as we can.

“I believe they will put their strongest side out as there is a lot of money at stake.

“There will be a good crowd there and if the rain stays away there could be over a thousand people there. It is exciting for us all.”
