The Essex derby in the Bostik League premier division ended in a draw as Brightlingsea Regent were held by visitors AFC Hornchurch.

The point they took from a 1-1 draw on Bank Holiday Monday saw the R's end a run of three defeats in the league but wasn't enough to lift them clear of the bottom four in the top flight table.

The game got off to a good start for the hosts when Jake Turner struck with just four minutes on the clock to give them the lead.

It was an advantage they held on to until half-time but the Urchins struck back in the second half, with Brad Warner's 68th minute strike enough to earn them a point on their travels.

There was also Bank Holiday action in division north and two further all-Essex derbies.

The one at Park Drive saw bragging rights go to hosts Maldon & Tiptree as the Jammers came from behind to beat rivals Heybridge Swifts 3-2.

The visitors took the lead on 21 minutes when Ryan Henshaw put them ahead, but it proved a short-lived advantage as De-Carrey Sheriff levelled for Maldon just two minutes later.

They went ahead themselves on 35 minutes when Shane Cojocarel scored to give the Jammers a half-time lead, however, they found themselves back on level terms seven minutes after the break as Joe Gardner found the target for Swifts.

That wasn't a situation that lasted long, though, as Cojocarel struck on 55 minutes to put Maldon ahead again and this time it was one they held on to to record a 3-2 victory.

Another Essex battle took place at West Street where Coggeshall Town had a home win against Witham Town.

The two teams had clashed on Friday night at the same venue in the FA Cup preliminary round and it ended 0-0 on that occasion, but this time it was Coggeshall who triumphed 2-0.

The Seedgrowers scored in both halves, with Ross Wall putting them ahead on six minutes and then Nnamdi Nwachuku finishing the job on 64 minutes.
