A teenager was attacked by a gang of four yobs wearing masks during a bike robbery.

The cyclist was assaulted on Furtherwick Road, Canvey, with Essex Police called shortly after 5.30pm on Wednesday (January 20).

Thankfully the victim - who was believed to have been punched in the stomach during the incident - managed to escape without sustaining serious injuries.

The group, who were in their late teens, did however manage to steal the victim's bike - a grey and blue Carrera with a small patch of gold spray paint on it and a bell on the left side.

A spokesperson from Essex Police, said: "We were called to reports of a robbery in Furtherwick Road, on Canvey, shortly after 5.30pm on Wednesday 20 January.

"A teenage cyclist was assaulted by four people wearing masks and had his bike stolen.

"Thankfully the victim did not sustain serious injuries.

"The suspects are described as being aged in their late teens, taller than 6ft and each of them were wearing Puffa coats and had their hoods up.

"The stolen bike is a grey and blue Carrera with a small patch of gold spray paint on it and a bell on the left side.
