A care home has been forced into lockdown after a spike of 11 Covid cases.

Parklands Nursing Home, Thundersley Park Road, Benfleet is now not allowing visitors to see family members after the rise.

Bosses say eight residents and three staff tested positive for coronavirus and now the care home is shut to residents.

Bharat Patel, director at the home, said: "We've given personal protective equipment to staff since March and bosses also following this strictly.

"Staff and residents who tested positive are self isolating and everyone is tested very regularly. Before these recent cases we have not had any Covid-19 cases in the home at all for the past 14 weeks. We test both the staff and residents regularly and have been free of it in the home up until very recently."
