A case of Covid has been confirmed at a secondary school, with an entire year group told to stay home.

FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh is the latest of more than 30 different schools in Essex to record positive coronavirus cases since the autumn term began in September.

Headteacher Mr Harris sent an urgent message to parents and students last night on social media.

He confirmed the school had been notified of another positive coronvirus case within the Year 10 bubble.

The Facebook post read: "We have this evening received confirmation of another positive COVID test in Year 10.

"At this time of night, we are unable to access public health advice. Given the number of cases in this year group in a short space of time I have taken the decision to move to remote teaching for all of Year 10 with immediate effect.

"No Year 10 students should attend the school tomorrow December 2."

It is understood that the school will be consulting with Public Health England on next steps.
