The owners of Chinese takeaways have rallied to support the NHS despite their hardship.
Both Taste of China and Oriental Express in Billericay have closed in recent days, but have cooked hundreds of meals for frontline NHS staff at Basildon Hospital.
Hannah Yung, a family friend of Jenny and Ming, the owners of Taste of China, who used to work at the shop, told the Echo her dad, who works on the frontline at the hospital, delivered the food to staff.
The 20-year-old, said: “It was such a lovely thing to do. The food covered seven wards worth of staff.
“Jenny and Ming are lovely. It was amazing.”
She stated that the takeaway food included egg fried rice, chicken chow mein, vegetable stir fry, and omelettes.
Oriental Express released a statement on their social media pages. It read: “We donated all our food to Basildon hospital for the NHS staff as we are now temporarily closed. Thank you once again for all that you are doing.”
