A TEENAGER was injured during a violent attack by a gang near a busy train station.
The 17-year-old boy was punched several times and left with minor injuries after the attack by the group of teenagers at around 11.15pm on Sunday, in Victoria Avenue, Southend.
No items were reported as stolen.
Despite friends’ claiming there was knife involved, police are yet to confirm if any weapons were used.
One family friend posted online: “My friend’s stepson was attacked outside Southend Victoria by about eight boys some on bikes and one of them pulled a knife. He’s very shaken up.
“Parents need to check their teenagers for knives before letting them out.”
Ian Gilbert, Southend Council leader said: “It is a dreadful incident to hear about and my thoughts are of course with the victim and his family at this time.
“It is of great concern to the town to have this happen near to the station.
“I hope this boy is doing OK now.”
He added: “I think these sort of incidents do cause concern in the community and will make people feel worried.”
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
