ONE of Southend’s most prominent restaurants will move into the site left vacant by East Coast Social bar, which closed last month.

In June, Mangetout bosses revealed they would be moving from their current home in Tylers Avenue, Southend.

Now the firm has announced it will be moving to the “restaurant strip” of the town – London Road, near the top of the high street.

The popular restaurant will be joining the likes of Bella Italia, Pizza Express and Nandos.

Announcing the news on Facebook, the owners said: “It is with great excitement that we can finally officially announce Mangetout is moving. After an incredible five years at our current location, it is time to close the doors once again and reopen bigger and better.

“We have come a long way since the early days of “little Mangetout” and we want to thank all of our amazing customers for supporting us over the years.

“Without you, this would not be possible. We can’t wait to bring Southend the next instalment.

“You will find our new home at the top of the high street on the restaurant strip and we are super excited to share what’s coming.

“This includes the first ‘Tank Beer’ site in Essex, new food and cocktail menu, the return of midweek lunchtimes and new ‘Legends’ food eating challenges.”

Tank Beer is a method of serving beer that preserves its freshness so well that it claims to be as good as if you’re drinking it in the brewery itself.

The beer is served from a custom-designed tank which will be installed at Mangetout’s new site.

A spokesman added: “We will also have an improved late night bar vibe with resident DJs, epic drinks and much much more.”

The company has said it will be open at its current site until this Sunday, September 8, and hopes to be up-and-running at their new site in London Road within a matter of weeks.

Mangetout opened in Tylers Avenue – the former home of Churchill’s nightclub – in 2015.

The owners moved their operation to the premises, which were three times larger than their former home in Chichester Road, to cope with demand.

The owners of East Coast Social now operate a new venue called Coco near Warrior Square.
