RESIDENTS are demanding action after battling years of “abusive and disruptive” drivers.

Home owners in Westley Gardens, Billericay, say rogue drivers are constantly blocking pavements and driveways with their inconsiderate actions.

They have even petitioned against the drivers but slammed highways bosses for not acting.

Campaigner Moreen Page said: “I have sent in two petitions to Essex County Council about this and have pictures of the parking.

“It has become a major issue over the last few years.

“It affects everyone who lives near the entrance to the road.

“They have been very abusive to me and the women are so much worse.

“This is where we live and we shouldn’t be dealing with this sort of thing.

“They also block the pavements so you can’t walk along there.”

Residents are unsure why their road is being used.

Another furious resident said she has witnessed heated arguments in the street over the parking.

She said: “Sometimes they block my property in and it’s an issue, especially when I have my family over.

“The abuse is so awful, they once accused my husband of being a pervert – which is ridiculous.”

An Essex Highways spokesman said: “We understand that the South Essex Parking Partnership did receive a letter about this issue in 2018, but the person has not yet followed that up by returning the application form.

“If residents would like to request parking restrictions on their road they can do so by emailing trafficreg@chelmsford.gov.uk or online on the Chelmsford City Council website.”

“There was a proposal a few years ago to implement parking restrictions around the new nursery school and the junction of Wesley Gardens and Rosebay Avenue, but this did not include restrictions in front of the drives of properties.

“It did not have support, so was not implemented.”

A South Essex Parking Partnership spokesman said: “We have not received any requests for parking restrictions in Wesley Gardens, Billericay.”

Residents were pointed to chelmsford.gov.uk for help.
