PURSE bells, card defenders, bike marking kits and other crime prevention materials were snapped up by Basildon shoppers at a crime prevention roadshow.

The roadshow was held in the Eastgate Shopping Centre on Tuesday as part of a "Safer Basildon" week of action in the town centre with additional Essex Police patrols including with the Basildon Council ASB team and other partner organisations.

The Safer Basildon Partnership is hosting another crime prevention roadshow outside Starbucks on the ground floor of the Eastgate Centre from 10am until 3pm tomorrow.

It is another opportunity to find out more about keeping people and properties safe, and to take away some free crime prevention materials. Representatives from Essex Police, Basildon Council, Neighbourhood Watch and Active Citizens will be attending.

Andy Barnes, chairman of Basildon Council’s communities committee, said: "During school half-term, the town centre is usually busier with people who don’t often have a chance to come along to our roadshows to pick up free crime prevention materials or speak to us about their community safety concerns.

"This is also an opportunity to take part in our survey to let us know what you see as the biggest issue in the town centre and how you think the Safer Basildon Partnership could improve it.

"We are committed to working together with our partners to make the borough a safer place by reducing crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour."
