A NIGHTCLUB has defended its safety record despite reports of drinks being spiked.

Essex Police earlier this month confirmed five official reports of drinks being spiked in Southend since November, before another two at the weekend.

Nightclub, Moo Moo, deny the venue has a problem with customer safety.

A spokesman for Moo Moo said: "Our security team regularly remind customers to be vigilant in this area and should anybody feel they are subject to interference with their drink we urge them to report it to us immediately in order we can investigate and work with the police in addressing this.”

Police confirmed they are investigating a second incident of drinks allegedly being tampered with, involving another young woman who was at Moo Moo Clubrooms, at Warrior Square, last Saturday, and subsequently taken to Southend Hospital.

Both victims' parents met by chance at Southend Hospital, and quickly established both their daughters - who were unknown to each other - had been at Moo Moo on the same night, and collapsed.

However, the club's bosses say they have not received any reports regarding any spiking incidents last weekend.

Essex Police urged anyone who has experienced their drink being tampered with to come forward. They said: "It’s really important any incidents where someone has their drink spiked are reported to us as we can’t investigate things we don’t know about.

"It also means we can address any concerns or issues and ensure you’re safe enjoying a night out in our town.

There are some simple things you can also do to reduce your chances of becoming a victim including not leaving drinks unattended, not accepting drinks from people you don’t know, and drinking responsibly.

"If you have any information about this type of incident, or any crime, call us on 101 or 999 in an emergency. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
