A MAN has been found dead in a park after concerns were raised for his welfare.

Police were called to Gloucester Park, in Basildon today just before 7am.

A heavy emergency services presence was spotted in Upper Mayne, Basildon near Gloucester Park.

Residents spotted about seven police cars on the side of the road.

Passersby also saw armed police, forensics officers on the footbridge across the road as well as a heavy police presence in the park too.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called by the ambulance service just after 6.45am this morning, October 23, to concerns for the welfare of a man in Basildon.

"Officers arrived at Gloucester Park but, sadly, the man was pronounced dead at 7.25am.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM's Coroner."

The ambulance service has been contacted for comment.
