HOLLYWOOD superstar Sienna Miller failed to turn up on Southend Pier to film with TV chef Jamie Oliver – because of the weather.

The actress was due in town as the surprise guest on the chef’s show Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club, which Jamie hosts with long-time friend and TV presenter, Jimmy Doherty.

A well-placed source on set told the Echo the actress, who has starred in films such as Layer Cake and Alfie, didn’t show up on Friday because it was so wet.

Hollywood A-listers are no stranger to the pier.

Lastyear, actress Gwyneth Paltrow was a guest in the first series of the show.

Former Radio 1 DJ, Chris Moyles, was rumoured to have been the first celebrity guest on the show when filming started on Thursday.

Filming for the six-part series continues tomorrow and is due to last until Friday.

Further special guests are expected to turn up, but have yet to be confirmed.

The no-show from the actress, who’s engaged to actor Tom Sturridge, didn’t go down too well with people in the town.

Barry Goodacre, 65, of Moreland Close, Benfleet, said: “She’s a wimp! She should be ashamed of herself!”

His wife Glynis, 64, added: “It’s a shame she hasn’t turned up. I’ve bought every one of Jamie’s books. I’d love to have a go on one of his shows. The rain wouldn’t stop me.”

Others said she should be made of harder stuff, and that living in the UK she should be used to it.

Elliot Yellop, 25, of Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, said: “She’s just too used to her Hollywood lifestyle, she’s being too much of a diva. She’s British, you just get used to this kind of weather.”

Emma Smith, 29, of Southend Road, Rochford, said nothing would have stopped her taking part, especially with Jamie’s food on offer.

She added: “She should have come down, a bit of rain doesn’t hurt anyone.”

A member of the shows production team has since said: "Sienna was unable to film due to the weather. She was a long distance from Southend and the plan was for her to reach us by air but sadly low cloud prevented her from flying safely."
