WATER and waste water services will be operating as normal despite the coldest weather in the region for decades.
Anglian Water says it is business as usual and they will be operating a 24 hour service.
They will, however, be easing back on flushing operations to reduce the risk of the water freezing and causing problems for motorists and pedestrians.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said the quality of drinking water will not be affected in any way during the freezing conditions but that they expect a huge increase in burst water pipes and mains.
The spokesman said: “We are keeping a very close eye on the weather forecast and when the thaw happens, predicted to be around January 16, we are expecting a big increase in the number of burst water mains as the ground moves as it gets warmer.
“We'd also like to remind customers to make sure that they take precautions to prevent their pipes freezing, such as wrapping any pipes, water tanks and cisterns with insulation.”
The water company dealt with a record number of 76 burst mains on December 29, compared with a typical average of around 13.
