A BID to finalise plans to build 35 homes in a village have been given the green light by council bosses.

Developers Abbey Developments are set to bring the new development to land west of Hedingham Road in Gosfield.

Braintree Council's planning committee gave the proposals approval on Tuesday.

The development was originally granted in May 2018, with access to the site off Meadway rather than Hedingham Road.

The latest bid by the developers aimed to resolve matters reserved in the original application such as the site’s layout, appearance, scale and landscaping.

Prior to the meeting, it was recommended by officers that the council grant the application.

A planning report said: “The principle of residential development at the site has been established by the existing outline planning permission.

“The applicant seeks permission only for reserved matters, namely matters of appearance, layout, scale and landscaping of the development.

“There are no objections from the relevant statutory technical consultees and officers consider that the proposed appearance, layout, scale and landscaping of the development is acceptable in planning terms.

“Overall it is considered that the detailed proposal constitutes a sustainable residential development in an appropriate location and accordingly it is recommended that the reserved matters are approved.”

Gosfield Parish Council did not object on the condition that all construction traffic must enter the site through the airfield from Hedingham Road and not through Meadway.

Main objections surrounding the bid concerned the access to the site during construction.

One resident said: "I am concerned about the use of Meadway as a works access and the use of heavy vehicles on the already damaged road.

“Meadway is very busy at school time and the development will cause more congestion.”
