THOUSANDS more people are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The latest NHS data shows 43,652 people in Colchester had received both jabs by May 2.

Of those to have received both jabs, 35,874 were aged 45 and over - 45 per cent of the age group.

It means 7,778 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses.

In Tendring, more than a third of people have had both doses.

Figures show 45,266 people had received both jabs.

A total of 41,005 were 45 and over - 49 per cent of the age group.

It means 4,261 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses.

Nick Hulme, chief executive of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust, which runs Colchester Hospital, said: “A massive thank you to all staff and volunteers who have supported our vaccination hubs over the past four months.”

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Colchester.

West Mersea was the area with the highest coverage, with 76.5 per cent of people aged 16 and over receiving their first jab.

West Bergholt and Wormingford was closely behind, standing at 75.5 per cent, and Prettygate and Westlands had the third highest coverage at 75.3 per cent.

The areas with the lowest coverage were Greenstead, at 32.9 per cent, Wivenhoe and University at 41.8 per cent, and New Town and Hythe at 42.5 per cent.

In Tendring, Weeley and Thorpe-le-Soken leads the way with 84.2 per cent of people aged 16 and over receiving their first jab.

Holland-on-sea is closely behind with 81.6 per cent, and Frinton West and Kirkby with 81 per cent.

Harwich Town and Dovercourt has the lowest coverage, at 64.5 per cent, followed by Clacton Central with 66.5 per cent and Harwich and Parkeston at 66.7 per cent.

Across England, 12.9 million people had received a second dose of the jab by May and a total of 28.8 million people have had one dose of a vaccine.

The Covid infection remains low at 12.3 per 100,000 people across both districts.

Colchester has recorded a total of 24 new cases in the last seven days whilst Tendring has recorded 18.
