A FATHER and daughter running duo smashed their fundraising target after completing a half-marathon in Colchester.

Ray Castle and Clare Webb would normally have taken part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon, in London.

However, because of the pandemic, it took place virtually this year, so the super-fit duo took on the same 13.1-mile challenge around the streets of Colchester.

They started early on Sunday morning taking in Straight Road, Abbey Fields and Shrub End.

Clare, 38, who works as a nurse, said: “We completed it in two hours and 27 minutes, cheered on by my mum, Julie, and daughters, Ella and Aimee.

“The finish line was outside my house where family and a few neighbours were waiting to see us.

“Dad runs every day to keep fit and really enjoys it.

“I run to wind down from my job as a nurse, which has been especially important in the last year.

“Next year we hope to be back in London for the Royal Parks event.

“We’ve done it before and the atmosphere is amazing.”

The pair took on the challenge to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

It is a charity close to Clare’s heart as her grandmother, Aida Higginson, died from the condition ten years ago, aged 74.

The pair had hoped to raise £200 but, instead, are on their way to hitting £600.
