A CARING chippy owner has been donating free lunches to staff at a Covid-19 test centre.

David Henley, owner of the award-winning Henley’s of Wivenhoe, in Vine Drive, has delivered more than 100 hot meals to staff working at the test centre at the University of Essex.

Wanting to do his bit, Mr Henley was put in touch with those running the test centre by ward councillor and Colchester Council leader Mark Cory.

And the deliveries have been such a hit, the chippy has promised to keep providing them for as long as they are needed.

He said: “The staff at the centre are doing such a fantastic job in difficult circumstances.

“They were living on Pot Noodles and sandwiches before.

“We’ve been delivering food during their two shifts on Monday and Thursday.

“They email their orders over the day before and it is all socially distanced and safe.”

He added: “It has been amazing, they are so grateful and it has been really rewarding for us to do.”

A grateful Mr Cory added: “I am a regular visitor to Henley’s myself and I was delighted to be able to put David in touch with those running the test centre at the university.

“It is a really generous offer of David to support people who are part of the Covid-19 frontline.”
