SIX areas in Colchester have Covid infection rates above the national average, latest figures have shown. 

In England the infection rate is 119.9 cases per 100,000 people. 

Across Colchester as a whole the figures for the seven days to February 20 show an infection rate of 99.6 cases per 100,000 people. 

This is because there were 194 cases confirmed.

A map also shows the infection rate in each part of Colchester and how much it has changed in a week.

It shows six areas of the borough have infection rates higher than the national average. 

Marks Tey and Wakes Colne has the highest with an infection rate of 207.6 for the seven days to February 9. 

During that time period there were 18 new cases. 

Here are the infection in the six areas of Colchester:

  • Marks Tey & Wakes Colne - 207.6 (up 125 per cent)
  • Parson's Heath - 200.8 (up 47.4 per cent)
  • New Town & Hythe - 149 (up 75 per cent) 
  • Shrub End - 146.9 (up 133.3 per cent) 
  • Stanway - 131.3 (no change)
  • Lexden - 123.5 (up 40 per cent)

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Of the 315 local areas in England, 51 (16 per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, 260 (83 per cent) have seen a fall and four are unchanged.

Corby in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate in England, with 248 new cases recorded in the seven days to February 20 – the equivalent of 343.4 cases per 100,000 people.

This is up from 314.3 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 13.
