Essex Highways have reported numerous crashes and incidents around Halstead and the surrounding villages.

Most of the incidents were reported at around 9am this morning - Friday 4 December.

The road is partially blocked after a crash involving two vehicles where one has hit a tree.

An accident has also been reported on the A1017 near the Sible Hedingham and Castle Hedingham.

The incidents come following snowfall last night with residents waking up to a blanket of snow across Essex.

The snow is believed to be causing problems for drivers however.

More information about the incidents is currently know but it is likely snow and ice could have contributed.

A warning was put out by the Met Office yesterday to drivers over concerns about 'slushy' roads.

The Met Office released a weather warning for snow and rain through to today across the east of England.

It warned of heavy rain and snow that could lead to tricky travel due to surface water and “possible slushy accumulations”.

The Met Office added that drivers can expect to see warmer weather over the weekend with a reduced chance of snow and ice.
