HOME Secretary and Essex MP Priti Patel has been made the subject of satirical puppet show Spitting Image.

The comedy returned to screens this month for the first time in 24 years and airs on the Britbox streaming service.

The comeback episode saw the puppet show take aim at public figures including Dominic Cummings, Greta Thunberg, Donald Trump and the Duke of Sussex.

Spitting Image originally ran for 18 series between 1984 and 1996 and was watched by 15 million viewers in its heyday.

A new episode of the comedy will be available on BritBox every Saturday for 10 weeks.

Pictures from the show depict Ms Patel, who represents Witham, as a vampire.

Fellow Tory politicians Michael Gove and Boris Johnson also feature in the show.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

The new run of the show has proved popular and it will return for a second series in the autumn of 2021.

Reemah Sakaan, chief creative and brand officer for BritBox, said: “The fantastic response to Spitting Image just goes to show how much the world needs public service satire.

“Not only can subscribers look forward to another nine weeks of anarchy but also now another series in 2021."

Speaking ahead of the latest series Spitting Image co-creator Roger Law said: “The new Spitting Image is going to be a circuit-breaking, satirical moonshot with a unique ability to satirise the good and the great.

“Everything we have created for the shows, the puppets, the satire, has been done in the public interest.”
