Thank you Tom Mallinson (Gazette Letters, October 14, “Racism is not just white against black”) for highlighting that racism is not just white against black.
I came to Colchester in 1993 from Germany, my late husband was in the army.
After shopping in town my sister and I decided to have lunch in a well-known establishment in St John Street.
At the bar I was approached by a group of middle aged men who advised “foreigners” were not welcome, and we should leave.
I am white and speak with a Northern Irish accent, needless to say we left and I have not been back there since.
Over the years I have experienced racism because I am Irish many times, as recently as a couple of months ago when walking my dog.
However I do not let it bother me, as those who spurt their racist venom are more to be pitied than feared.
