Bars and restaurants in Colchester have unveiled the changes they have made to comply with the Government's latest coronavirus restrictions.

Since Thursday pubs and restaurants have been given a 10pm curfew to try and halt the spread of the virus.

Under the Government's latest rules, customers must now wear face coverings, except when seated at a table to eat or drink.

Staff are now required to wear a face covering too and eateries can no longer take bookings of more than six people to comply with the rules.

The Old Siege House Bar and Brasserie, in East Street, will be taking last bookings at 8pm each evening.

A statement from the bar said: "Following today’s announcement by the government we would like to advise all customers that we will be taking last bookings at 8pm in the evening.

"This will enable us to serve you all in a timely manner without rushing you.

"It will also enable our staff to clean down and finish in time.

"Many thanks for your custom and we hope these restrictions will not put you off visiting us."

The management of Three Wise Monkeys, in High Street, Colchester, said the venue will now close at 10pm.

"The safety of our customers and staff is vital," they said.

"Since re-opening on July 4, our staff have always worn face masks.

"We have always provided table service.

"Social distancing has been at the core of our offering.

"We have always requested customers bring a face mask - this is now a legal requirement.

"The guidelines may have changed but our commitment to you has not.

"More than ever we need you to support us."

A spokesman for the Pavilion restaurant, in Middleborough, Colchster, gave a list of a range of measures the eatery will take as a precaution.

They said: "While we want everyone to continue a positive and enjoyable experience as much as possible, it’s crucial to adhere to the following when visiting us.

"On arrival please ‘check-in’ using our QR code posters displayed at the entrance with the NHS Covid-19 app.

"You must now wear a face covering within our venue except when seated at your table.

"Under no circumstance will we allow multiple group bookings made by the same party or socialising with other tables.

"We appreciate your continued support and understanding during these challenging times."

Middletons Steakhouse, in North Hill, Colchester, said the latest bookings for tables will be at 9pm.

In a statement, the restaurant said: "This is also a good chance to remind our customers that we have our strict social distancing rules in place, as well as track and trace.

"We will be providing our staff with face masks to wear in line with the new guidelines, and customers are asked to wear a mask when moving in/around the restaurant when not at their table.

"We are also adhering to the rule of six."
